I’ve been studying Latin on my own and with a tutor for around 2 years now, covering basic grammatical structures as well as famous classical texts from authors like Catullus, Caesar, and Marcus Aurelius in Latin. As per my qualifications, I received a perfect score in the NLE Intermediate exam and a gold medal for the Latin Advanced Prose exam.
Director of Community Engagement
Hello, I am Tae Young (Aidan) Kim. I am currently a 10th grade student in Chadwick International School. Since the beginning of my education, I have embarked on the study of Latin from the first grade in elementary school, and during the summer breaks I frequently visited Italy and particularly, Vatican City to embrace Latin cultures and practices in the historical sites. I have been specifically immersed in the field of architecture and art history in general, encompassing the Latin art styles. For several years, I have pursued a goal to deeply hone my interest in Latin. These collective experiences offered me an opportunity to strongly foster a strong foundation in classical studies and a personal link to the richness of ancient and modern European history.
Alongside my dedication to Latin, I have cultivated a special interest in art history and architecture, fields where Latin culture and influence are vividly portrayed. I could ascertain the way ancient Rome and Latin styles continue to shape and inspire modern art and architecture, and I approached these myriad of historical subjects with both curiosity and passion. Through my travels and personal studies, I aim to fully achieve connections with Latin classical traditions and contemporary perspectives, strengthening an appreciation for the cultural heritage that strives to impact our world still today.
President
Salvete! My name is Alex (Hayoung) Jung, and I’m a senior at Seoul Foreign School in South Korea. I’m honored to serve as President of the National Junior Classical League International Convention. For the past five years, I’ve been self-studying Latin and Greek, and I founded South Korea’s first NJCL chapter through my school’s Latin/Greek Honor Society.
Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to receive distinctions such as the National Latin Exam (Advanced Reading Comprehension, Gold Medal), the National Classical Etymology Exam (Perfect Score, Gold Medal), the National Latin Vocabulary Exam (Perfect Score, Gold Medal), the National Medusa Mythology Exam (Perfect Score, Gold Medal), the National Roman Civilization Exam (Summa Cum Laude, Gold Medal), and the Scribo Latin Writing Contest (Maxima Cum Laude).
As someone who was often financially and geographically locked out of Classics opportunities in Korea, I’m especially excited to help make this convention accessible to everyone passionate about Classics around the globe. Let’s make this year’s NJCL International Convention one to remember, and have a lot of fun together. Valete!

These experiences have strengthened my leadership, communication, and advocacy skills, which I bring to both my academic and extracurricular work.
